Developer Mode on Roku isn't just for software engineers. It allows you to sideload custom apps, perform network diagnostics, and access the hidden Application Installer web portal right from your computer's browser.
To enable it, you need to enter a "Secret Code" sequence on your remote. Since you're here, you can use the Windows Roku Remote app or your physical remote to perform the sequence.
The Secret Sequence
Press these buttons in order, without pausing too long between them:
- Home (3 times)
- Up (2 times)
- Right (1 time)
- Left (1 time)
- Right (1 time)
- Left (1 time)
- Right (1 time)
If done correctly, a "Developer Settings" screen will appear. If it doesn't, press Home and try again—timing is everything!
Setting up your Password
Once the screen appears, select "Enable installer and restart." You will be asked to agree to a SDK license and then create a Developer Password.
IMPORTANT: Write this password down. You will need it to log in to the Roku from your PC.
Accessing the Roku from your PC
After your Roku restarts, you can access it by typing its IP address into your web browser (e.g., http://192.168.1.15). You will be prompted for a username (which is always rokudev) and the secret password you just created.
Control your Roku like a pro.
Now that you've unlocked Developer Mode, use Windows Roku Remote to navigate it faster than ever before.
