Automatic Roku Scanning: No Setup Required.

Setting up a new tech gadget can be frustrating. You have to find IP addresses, pair codes, or navigate complex Bluetooth menus. We believe those days should be over.

Windows Roku Remote is designed with "Zero Configuration" in mind. When you launch the app, it immediately begins a high-speed scan of your local network to find every Roku device you own.

How SSDP Discovery Works

Our app uses a protocol called SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol). We send a "M-SEARCH" packet to a specific multicast address on your WiFi network. Every Roku device is programmed to respond to this packet by saying, "I am here, and here is my address!"

This happens in less than a second. You don't need to know if your TV is at 192.168.1.15 or 10.0.0.42—the app handles the math for you.

Manual Rescan: When to use it?

While automatic scanning is robust, networks can sometimes be fickle. Maybe you just turned on your TV, or your router recently reassigned a new IP address to your Roku.

In these cases, we have included a Manual Rescan button in the top right corner of the app. Clicking this will:

  1. Clear the current device cache.
  2. Force a fresh network broadcast.
  3. Update the list of available TVs instantly.

Pro Tips for Better Discovery:

  • Same WiFi: Ensure your PC and Roku are on the same SSID (not guest WiFi).
  • VPNs: Some VPNs block local network broadcasts. If your TV isn't showing up, try disconnecting your VPN briefly.
  • Device Control: Make sure "Control by mobile apps" is enabled in your Roku Settings.

Experience seamless connectivity.
